Law student Ricky Gill (R) will report raising more than $315K in the 1stQ, bringing his total fundraising to "more than" $1.1M, "almost exclusively from individuals and largely from the San Joaquin Valley and Delta areas" of CA-09. Gill: "It's humbling to see our grassroots support translate into another strong fundraising quarter. Unlike my opponent, I draw my financial support primarily from voters in the 9th district, where I was born and raised" (release, 4/5).
Look, Ma, I'm On TV!
Gill was on "America's News HQ" 4/8.
Gill: "I think, with young voters, the Republican party has tremendous opportunity to reach a new horizon and touch a new frontier. ... Young and old, everybody in society wants a smaller, smarter government, that is cleaner, we deserve transparency. And if the Republican party, I think, appeals to those ideals, young people can be a captive audience for us."
Gill, on Rep. Jerry McNerney (D): "His experience in the Congress, I think has been devastating for that district. It's voting for a stimulus that did not bring down youth unemployment. It's giving taxpayer-funded giveaways to companies Solyndra. I think that's experience we need to turn away. People in that district are ready to embrace a new generation of leadership. I know that people often talk about my youth ... but part and parcel of that is vision. ... We need to take that spirit of optimism and change (from Silicon Valley) to Washington and that level of innovation should be taken to Congress too. I don't see why that institution should be exempt from making a positive difference."
Gill: "In the new district, there is not a single state or federal legislator who lives there and I feel fortunate to be their voice" (FNC, 4/8).
