Lugar Hits Mourdock in New TV Ad

Lugar Hits Mourdock in New TV Ad:

Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar has released yet another negative TV ad, a 30-second spot dedicated solely to raising doubts about state Treasurer Richard Mourdock's qualifications and motivation to become a U.S. senator.

"If Richard Mourdock got elected, I would say the same thing I said when Obama got elected, 'What a horrible mistake,'" says one man in the spot. "He's only trying to win an election for himself," adds a woman.

Lugar spokesman Andy Fisher said in a release that no paid actors were used to produce the spots. A source tracking the buys says six figures is being spent to air today's ad and Lugar's previous commercial.

Lugar's ad drops the same day that the National Rifle Association and Club For Growth launched TV ads of their own hitting Lugar.

It's not the first negative ad Lugar has released. Plagued by stories about his residency over the last few months, Lugar appears to have only a narrow lead over Mourdock heading into the May 8 primary.
