'10 FL-24 candidate/ex-Ruth's Chris Steakhouse CEO Craig Miller (R) "has received an endorsement from" '10 GOV candidate/ex-FL AG Bill McCollum (R). McCollum statement: "While we have several good conservative candidates that have come forward to run in the new Coastal Congressional District, only Craig Miller has the depth of experiences to best address the most pressing issues of the day" (Powers, "Central Florida Political Pulse," Orlando Sentinel, 4/9).

For this open Republican-leaning seat, political newcomer Ron DeSantis (R) wowed Sunshine State GOP operatives by raising $227,000 in the first quarter. His campaign said he ended March with $218,000 in cash on hand. DeSantis, 33, has an impressive résumé. A Navy JAG officer who served in Iraq, DeSantis graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School. The GOP field is still fluid, but he appears likely to face former Ruth’s Chris CEO Craig Miller, who recently dropped a Senate bid; Jacksonville City Councilman Richard Clark; and state Rep. Fred Costello, among others.

Bev Slough files, says she's the only candidate to live, work and hold office within CD.

St. Johns Co. School Board chair Bev Slough (R) filed paperwork on April 4 to run in FL-06. According to a release, "she's the only candidate 'to live, work, raise a family, and to hold elective office within the district.'"

The field also includes Navy vet Ron DeSantis (R), Jacksonville City Councilman Richard Clark(R) and businessman Craig Miller (R) ("PolitiJax," Jacksonville Times-Union, 4/5).
