Shuler CoS Hayden Rogers took issue with the GOP budget plan this week, calling it a "serious gamble." Rogers: "While we all must work, in a bipartisan manner, to protect the long-term solvency of Medicare, Ryan's privatization and voucher plan is just flat wrong. We should be protecting seniors' health care, not increasing their expenses and reducing their benefits" (Ostendorff,Asheville Citizen-Times, 3/31).

At a forum held by the League of Women Voters on Monday, candidates
Cecil Bothwell (D), Tom Hill (D), Spence Campbell (R), Ethan Wingfield (R), Chris Petrella (R), and Vance Patterson (R) "tackled questions from residents about illegal immigration, free trade, taxes and education" (Harbin, Hendersonville Times-News, 4/2).
