West defends oil industry.

Rep. Allen West (R) "defended the oil industry and its tax breaks" in a message to constituents on April 2, while accusing Pres. Obama "of demonizing Big Oil."
West, who favors expanding offshore drilling: "The oil and gas industry supports 9.2 million American jobs and makes up 7.5 percent of our Gross Domestic Product." The industry also pays $86M "daily in rents, royalties, bonuses and income taxes, he said."
West: "President Obama wants to increase their taxes? Insidious, especially considering that the same day the president was demonizing our oil and gas industry, the Chinese government-owned Petroleum Company surpassed ExxonMobil in production" (Gibson, Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, 4/2).
