Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., is releasing a new round of TV ads touting his record on veterans' issues.
"The very first hearing I went to, I had a veteran stand up and say: 'I'm a disabled vet and my mileage reimbursement is 11 cents a mile.' And so we went to work. And we got it up to a little over 40 cents a mile so that veterans could afford to get to their health care," Tester says in one of his new commercials, first released to Hotline On Call.
The other features a woman who has served in the military vouching for Tester. "He helped pass the rural veterans' health care act. And he's fought for woman veterans who've been victims of sexual assault," she says.
Tester's campaign says the $60,000 is the size of the buy for the latest round of ads. The ads don't mention D.C. or the Democratic Party.
Montana isn't the only Senate contest featuring veterans in early TV ads. In Missouri, VoteVets.org went up with a spot late last month in support of Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. Tester serves on the Veterans' Affairs Committee.
The ads are Tester's second and third of the campaign. He launched his first ad late last month. Tester's campaign spent about $47,000 on his first spot, according to a source tracking the buy. Tester's campaign says he spent about $60,000. All of his ads have been positive.
Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg has yet to go up on TV.
